e3 is the leading digital transformation partner for this national charity. Over the past two years we have helped them deliver a revised strategic focus for 2020 - to put people with arthritis first, improve their quality of life now so that they can say,.“I am in control, independent and recognised.” We are now in the process of developing a completely new digital estate, from the ground up, to fully support future users and the aspirations of Arthritis Research UK and its recent acquisition of Arthritis Care.

Serving the unmet needs of people with arthritis today and for the future

As part of this programme, we have undertaken large-scale primary research to understand the needs of the audience and establish the ways digital can help. Whilst the charity is committed to putting people with arthritis first, there were still significant challenges to navigate within the strategic leadership of how we do this and the gravity of change required. We worked hard with the Head of Digital to push this agenda, which could only be possible when supported by this valuable research.

Optimising the existing website on Sitecore Experience Platform

We have provided strategic guidance on the capabilities of the Sitecore Experience platform and aligned all outputs around their longer term 2020 vision.

Arthritis Virtual Assistant

This ground-breaking work has made Arthritis Research UK’s vast library of research content and support information readily available to all through IBM’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform, IBM Watson.

Social media and content frameworks, training and playbooks

We have reinvented how the charity engages through the social channels and provided direction to their in-house teams. We have also successfully developed and embedded a story-first content strategy within the client’s new content teams.

Website analytics set up and training

We have undertaken a review of the existing PPC programme of activity, with training sessions and optimisation recommendations for the in-house PPC manager.

Fundraising and awareness campaign work

We undertake a whole range of campaign work, including the “Everyday exercises for everyday lives” campaign to support a brand partnership with Voltarol.

THE RESULTS

Improvements to the donation journey have delivered a 38% increase in donations, which includes a 115% increase in Direct Debits and a 57% increase in donation value.

Client feedback on the consultative work, staff workshops and training has also been fantastic, as we provided their teams with the tools and knowledge to do a better and more effective job.

The Arthritis Virtual Assistant project is now in a live pilot, and initial user feedback has been phenomenal. The project has been showcased at the IBM World of Watson conference in Las Vegas and entered for a prestigious Cannes Lion award.
